All 11 questions on lighters and torchesWhat is the difference between a torch lighter and a regular lighter?
A torch lighter makes a focused jet flame that is much hotter and holds up in wind. A regular lighter makes a soft, open flame.
How do I refill a torch lighter?
Turn the lighter upside down, press the butane can nozzle straight into the fill valve, and fill in short bursts of a few seconds. Wait a few minutes for the gas to settle before you light it.
How do I purge a torch lighter?
Point the fill valve away from you, somewhere ventilated and away from any flame, and press it with a small screwdriver until the hissing stops. Then refill.
What butane should I use?
Refined butane, 5x or higher, with a nozzle adapter that fits your lighter’s valve. Cheaper butane leaves residue that clogs the jet.
Can you refill a Zippo lighter?
Yes. A classic Zippo uses lighter fluid, not butane. Pull the insert out, lift the felt pad and soak the cotton. Flints and wicks are replaceable too.
What is hemp wick?
Hemp twine coated in beeswax. You light the wick with a lighter, then use the wick’s small flame, so butane never gets near what you are lighting.
